Questions people actually ask.

Plain answers, no fine print you have to dig for.

Getting started

What do I need to connect to use Joy?

Your bank or credit card statements, and your email. Together those catch almost everything. For a small number of services — like Amazon Subscribe & Save — Joy may ask for one more secure connection to get the full picture.

Is it safe to connect my accounts?

Yes. Joy connects the same secure way your bank already lets you check your balance on your phone. Joy can read what’s there. It cannot move money, make a purchase, or send anything on its own.

Will Joy ask for my passwords?

Never for your bank. Plaid handles your bank login, so AskJoy never sees it. For a small number of companies that only let you cancel from inside your account, Joy may ask for that one login. It’s used only with your permission, only for that request, and deleted once the request is done.

What if I’m not comfortable with technology?

That’s exactly who this is built for. There’s nothing to configure — you connect your accounts once, and everything after that is plain conversation: Joy tells you what it found, and you say yes or no.

What Joy actually does

Will Joy ever spend my money or make a purchase?

No — never, under any circumstance. That’s simply not something this service does.

What can Joy do, then?

With your go-ahead, Joy can cancel a subscription directly where a company allows it, or help you through the ones that require more — a call, or direct contact with the company on your behalf.

How does cancellation actually happen?

It depends on the company. Some cancel instantly, the moment you say yes. Others don’t offer a self-serve option, so Joy’s team contacts them directly as your authorized representative — verified with a few details you provide — and handles it without you needing to get on a call. A smaller number of companies only accept a cancellation request if you’re on the line yourself; for those, Joy preps exactly what to say, or joins the call with you.

How do I know it actually worked?

Joy checks back a few weeks later to confirm the charge is really gone — not just that a company said it would be. If it isn’t, Joy flags it again.

What if I don’t want to cancel something Joy flags?

Nothing happens. Joy shows you what it found and waits. You can say “not now” and it stays exactly as it was.

Family sharing

Can my family see my accounts?

Only if you choose to share, and only what you choose to share — never a full view of your accounts or statements. Sharing is off until you turn it on.

What can they see, exactly?

Whatever categories you’ve chosen to share — for example, flagged subscriptions or possible duplicate charges — shown as a simple list. Not a feed of every purchase.

Can I turn off family sharing later?

Yes, at any time. You can also narrow it to fewer categories or fewer people without turning it off entirely.

Is this the same as giving someone power of attorney or account access?

No. Family sharing only shares information Joy has already flagged. It doesn’t give anyone login access to your accounts or the ability to make decisions for you.

Pricing

Is Free really free?

Yes — no credit card required, no trial period that quietly converts. Free includes finding subscriptions, flagging duplicate charges, and basic alerts. Bill negotiation is part of the Plus and Premium plans.

What’s a “success fee”?

Negotiating a bill down takes real human time. On Plus, we only charge for it if it actually works, typically 35% of what you saved — not on top of it. On Premium, most negotiations are included.

Can I cancel my Joy subscription anytime?

Yes, and — consistent with everything else here — you can do it yourself, anytime, with no retention maze of our own.

Will Joy try to talk me into upgrading?

Joy will tell you if a paid plan would genuinely help — for example, if you’re regularly hitting the limit on the free plan. It won’t nag you about it repeatedly.

Trust & safety

Is my information sold to anyone?

No. Your financial information is used to help you — it isn’t sold to advertisers or third parties.

Can Joy be fooled by a scam?

Joy checks what it can and tells you honestly what it thinks — including when it isn’t sure. If something looks like it could be a scam, Joy will say so and help you figure out the safest next step, rather than guessing with false confidence.

What if I think Joy got something wrong?

Tell it. You can always ask Joy to look again, and nothing it flags is final until you say so.

Still have a question?

Talk to Joy directly, or reach a real person any time.
